Fake Memory Cards

September 27th, 2009

In India Fake memory cards are very common and it is very difficult to say what you are buying is an original memory card if you buy it from one of many auction websites. The truth is, most of the sellers out there on auction websites are not even aware of that what they are selling is a fake product. The ultimate target of these sellers is to buy and sell memory cards with good margin while they were able to sell at a very cheap market price which will attract the buyers towards them. They are not looking for any reputation on this fast moving product market. They just sell and make good profit.

As a customer, once you received the product from a seller, it is very difficult to distinguish the original with the fake. The only time you will understand, your product is fake is when you go for warranty registration on the manufacturer’s website. While you try to register, it is very essential to input the Unique Serial Number which is a printed number at the back or bottom of the memory card. This Serial Number will not be available on a Fake memory card. Finally you will ended up with a fake memory card without any warranty.

Areas to look for a genuine memory card

If you are aware of the following steps, it is very easy to distinguish a fake with an original. But, this is possible only if you go for a local purchase.

(Note: We are selling products from Indian memory card authorized distribution channels. So, we highly recommend to buy your memory cards from us, which will be 100% Original)

  1. First of all, a fake memory card will not come with a unique serial number directly printed on the memory card itself. Even if you saw one on that, you can not register it on the manufacturer’s website to claim for warranty.
(Advice: Talk to the seller before buying about this technicality and tell them that you will return the card if you found that is a fake product.)
  2. Most of the original memory cards will come with a Hologram Sticker.
  3. The print quality of the packing and the label on the memory card itself will be of less quality than the original Memory Card.
  4. If you use a PCMCIA adapter to read the data on the card, it is very easy to find what is exactly your card is. An Example: When you installed a Sandisk Extreme SD card via a PCMCIA Adapter to your Laptop, and look at the properties of that drive, it will show some other manufacturer name and a different serial number. The capacity may be same. But, the quality and data transfer speed will be of less than the original. Most importantly, you can not get a warranty claim on that Memory Card.
